Oregon State Police have begun an investigation into an accident this morning reported on Highway 30 twelve miles east of Astoria in the Knappa Area. Reverse 9-1-1 calls warned Knappa residents this morning that the highway is closed and officials do not have an estimate at this time on when 30 will reopen.

At approximately 9:11 a.m. OSP and local emergency responders were notified of a head-on collision involving a commercial truck and another vehicle on Highway 30 near milepost 85. The crash has been confirmed as a fatality and the highway is blocked. An 11:17 AM update confirms the highway is still closed. A detour has been set up taking Old Hwy 30 at the Svensen Junction to Koptish Rd and back to Hwy 30.

According to early information the driver of the passenger vehicle was ejected on impact. The driver of the semi truck is suffering head injuries.  Officials suggest checking www.tripcheck.com for the latest information on the highway.
