The 114th Astoria Regatta Festival August 6-10th
The Astoria Regatta Association is pleased to invite you to participate in the 2008 Lektro Astoria Regatta Grand Land Parade. The theme this year is “Great in 2008”.
The 114th Astoria Regatta Festival will be held from August 6th through the 10th. Five days of fun revolve on the activities on or near the great river of the west, the mighty Columbia River. Musical events abound this year, with nightly concerts to fit any taste in music. A Children’s parade; Sailboat races on the Columbia; Fireworks over the Columbia; a special ceremony at the Maritime Memorial Park; a Salmon Bar-B-Que; a Car Show, and of course the 2008 LEKTRO INC. Grand Land Parade are just some of the that make up the Regatta Festival.
The 2008 LEKTRO Grand Land Parade starts at 12:00 Noon Saturday August 9th at the intersection of 17th and Exchange. The popular downtown route starts and ends at nearly the same spot. The parade is virtually flat, with one block going downhill, and the final block uphill to the disband area. Please check in the morning of the parade at the Astoria Aquatic Center, 1997 Marine Drive, between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
The fastest way to register for the parade is online, right here. You can register online through August 4th. Go to http://www.astoriaregatta.org and click on the link to 2008 LEKTRO INC. Grand Land Parade Application. Once there, fill out the application, press submit, and you are registered for the parade. Floats and motorized entries need to bring a certificate of insurance when they check-in, the morning of the parade (government entries do not need a certificate of insurance). An email will confirm your entry. This year’s Parade Chairman is, once again, Mr. Martin Bue.

Tip of the Day
All the lessons of history in four sentences: Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad with power. The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly small. The bee fertilizes the flower it robs. When it is dark enough, you can see the stars. ~ Charles A. Beard

Hey all - Joni here...I’m running Regatta Square...And I’m in desperate need of bartenders for the beer garden; the American Legion is having a big bru-ha-ha, and they cannot spare bartenders! (Didn’t know until today!)
If anyone has a valid servers permit and would like to volunteer (for some pretty awesome tips!), please call me...I’ll be on my cell 503-338-8277 Wednesday thru Friday. I can use help both Friday night from 4pm-10pm and on Saturday from 1pm-11pm.
I really need help...so please call me if you can help serve beer and wine on Friday or Saturday Thanks so much!

Oh...and we’re talking thousands of people I think...especially on Saturday! (wink) Friday will be pretty strong too though, since I’ll have live entertainment both nights!
