Delaura Beach
That has been some discussion going on lately about the property that the County owns at Delaura Beach. A proposal has been offered by State Parks to purchase the property and add it to the Ft. Stevens State Park. While this is the only formal proposal we have had given to us, there are other proposals out there with ideas on what to do with the property.
This decision, along with all the decision we make, need to be made with as much information and options available. I don’t believe that we should take a myopic view of this and just turn this piece of property over to the State. We need to know what other possibilities are. This will provide us with options to discuss and determine what is in the best interest of County’s resources.
It may very well happen that we sell it to State Parks, but I for one want to make sure that we take other options as seriously as we are with the State Parks offer.

Please keep in mind that a short term financial gain for the County will will be overshadowed by the loss of this asset if any of this wild space falls prey to a developer. There is neither a high end housing shortage nor a golf course shortage in this county. However, if any of this is sold to a developer it will be the beginning of an open public space shortage.
