Posting Live: Clatsop County Commissioner Appointed
Commissioners Jeff Hazen, Ann Samuelson, Sam Patrick and Chair Patricia Roberts are meeting this evening to decide who to appoint to the vacated district three seat. The courtroom’s first two pew rows are filled. The meeting opens and we all rise for the flag salute.
No public comment cards were filled out. Patrick asked for an explanation of how the process was going to occur. Samuelson made a motion to do it by roll call with each commissioner making their comments and then naming who they were voting for. Hazen seconded it. Four “ayes” and Patrick’s “nay.”
Chair Roberts called on each Commissioner to present their comments and cast their vote.
Patrick said he appreciated the people who took part in the process. Each one has something to bring to the table. Raichl has the most experience in the County process and budgeting and has his vote.
Samuelson said the same negative strong arm politics that have played a big role in the elections have also extended to this appointment process but she believes she has been able to ignore that for the most part, and to, “focus on the higher purpose we are charged with, effective county governance.” Ambrose has a degree in engineering and has a thoughtful approach to issues, “I appreciate his positive comments.” He was her next door neighbor so she’s known him for awhile. She looks forward to learning more about Lundy, she likes his energy and his career experience. Neikes is good at planning and has good knowledge of forestry issues. Raichl will help them come together so, “we aren’t celebrating for the wrong reasons” and for this reason casts her vote for him.
Hazen appreciate most views that were given to him. He didn’t appreciate the threats, outright and veiled. Sheriff Bergin said if Hazen appointed a certain person he nor his deputies would appear in front of the board. Hazen said Bergin knew he was saying this at today’s meeting.
Chair Roberts made it unanimous and presented Raichl with a scrunchy.
A judge will come at 6:30 to swear in the new county commissioner.

Ummm, does that mean Hazen voted for Raichl?
District Three overwhelmingly went with Neikes. No guts no glory commishes. Ya whimped and most certainly did to give in to the strong arm tactics. The only thing that can be said is yer the ones with the courage to sit there (except the chicken that bailed and didn\’t even run again) and maybe even you needed a kind word from the a-hole at the paper. How long do you think it will be before they become the \"gang of four\” again?

And did you hear ole “Jeffy Boy” whining about threats and squealing on the Sheriff saying he would in no way deal with BOCC if they were stupid enough to select one certain candidate?
Just the kind of guy we want in the trenches in our behalf, that Jeff.
And this board thinks they are going to control Raichl?

Do we want an uncooperative Sheriff who threatens elected officials? Who does he think he is, Josh? Too bad he doesn’t have a stipend that could be removed. So the way I hear it he has broken his oath of office because he is obviously not upholding the laws of Oregon. By stating he would refuse to appear before the board or have any of his deputies appear before the board, he is stating he would refuse to protect the board because of lack of presence at public meetings. Bergen should be recalled or at least disciplined by the DOJ for this threat. How can we trust that the sheriff is making sound decisions for public safety in this county if he is not living up to his oath of office.
Hey McGee, why don’t you change the name of your blog to “As Reported By the Daily Astorian” since they write all your content.

Must have been somoene imitating Hazen on KAST-AM’s Sound Bytes from BOCC’s confirmation of Raichl last night.

The Citizens For Open Government promised us a new day was here, that they were going to stand up against back room dealings. Open government means open to all. Where is their outcry against what Bergin did?
Bergin had the opportunity like everyone else did on more than one occasion, to take a comment card and tell the whole board his feelings on the issue during public comment time of who to appoint to District Three. Instead he acted like a thug threatening and blackmailing the commissioners behind closed doors. Supposedly the things this FOG group is against and going to stop. I guess that’s unless it benefits them?
This is an opportunity for those who would like to be elected to show if they are really for open government or if they are just mouth pieces of the Rocka crowd, SAYING they are for open government but meaning they are for throwing out whoever is in their way and rules don’t apply to them.
Come on Scheller, Rohn and Raichl. What do you think of Bergin’s behavior? Do you have the courage it takes to speak out about behind the door blackmailing of county commissioners? How would you have handled this situation?
Think Rocka has the rocks to make a statement for his organization on the Sheriff’s behavior? Not a chance.

Never thought of that. The sheriff should have followed sop and let the whole board (and community) know what he was thinking and planning to do if they voted for Neikes. It would have made him a more upright citizen. As it stands now he is nothing more than another crook. Is this how he handles all his business? Maybe if the FOGgy ones are right and thats the only way the elected know how to act they ALL need to be replaced, Marquis and Bergin along with them.

Mcgee are you mocking Jeff? The world we live in now demand threats should not be taken lightly. Once again you have proved you don’t think before you speak, your to emomtional about serious matters.
Why do always in most every post use strong negative words? Jeff was hardly whining did it cross your mind , maybe he was concerened, surprised, shaken?
PS: I don’t think the comissioners care to control anything other then our well being.
