Tryan Hartill May 7, 2008

Don’t have much to add to Sandra Swain’s article, but here is a drawing of the planned hotel submitted to the City of Astoria.

I’m sorry but I’m kind of sad to see the view of the river slowly dissapearing from sight. Are all the hotel /motels full now or do we need to drive the independents out

Apparently Tryan voted FOR those Gawd-awful condos (and I’m sure he would vote for a ton of hotels, too) on the Riverwalk. He thinks it will bring in “jobs.”

Ya know, not all jobs are good for such a unique and diverse town as Astoria. Oh yeah, that’s right. We want to look (and smell) like Longview, god bless those damned jobs and screw everyone else.

What exactly does Longview smell like, maybe your confused with Wauna. And if you are really a native you would know 35 years ago with a good east wind you would swear it was only 5 miles away. Tourism is built on 10 dollar an hour jobs. Take your pick more people and low paying jobs. Or
some kind of industry and family wage jobs and less tourists and live in peace.

The only Longview smell I catch is where the land fill is/was on that road that connects Longview with exit 36 on I-5.

I still get a whiff of Wauna when the Northeast wind blows.

I recently heard that the County has plans to move the Transition Center to the Darigold building.  What a great idea! I mean the County already owns the building and the it will be close to the courts and medical facilities.  Way to go County!!  I don’t know what they are planning to do with the old building, maybe OYA is going to expand to it.

Sam (The Clown) Patrick sits silent in the corner while his CCFOG cronies whisper farce. Maybe a recall of his position should be started.
Is the process for Lee’s replacement following the proper procedures?
I will take a stab and say they are.
This places the CCFOG group in trouble as they think their hand picked replacement is
out and the new replacement can’t be recalled.

I’ll give it 2 weeks after the election till the next commissioner recall is started.

Is the LNG situation now in the feds hands with exception to LUBA challenges?

So Sam doesn’t participate in the process, but he expects to vote I’ll bet....when if ever is he gonna realize it isn’t about him it’s about representing the people of Clatsop County, to do that you participate, instead of pouting.

First, Lawrence, yes, the LNG issue (for Bradwood Landing anyway), is now in the State and Federal arena.  The other one in Warrenton still has alot of hoops to jump through.  And as I’ve stated before, once Bradwood is approved, the Oregon LNG proposal might as well just fold.  Cause no, there’s no need for more than one here.

And as far as the waterfront, I’d like to remind everyone that not SO very long ago (but probably before most people here), when Astoria really WAS a port and fishing town, the entire waterfront was wall-to-wall canneries.  Ugly, smelly canneries.  They might not have been more than a story tall, so didn’t ruin any “view”, but damn, a riverwalk sure wouldn’t have been possible then! And if our port ever GETS to be a real port again, there will be even larger receiving warehouses built.

I have no objections to Floyd Holcom’s hotel proposal, or to the 3-story condos, etc.  They are tourism-related, which is good, but I still maintain that tourism alone cannot sustain Astoria.  Nobody wants to “vacation” at the coast when it’s nothing but rain, which is 3/4 th’s of the time.  Heck, look at how much of Cannon Beach just closes down from October thru March!  Revenue made from 4 months out of the year isn’t going to sustain any business.
