SHERIFF THANKS PUBLIC IN SUSPECT’S ARREST

A local man wanted on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and other counts was arrested in Portland on Saturday thanks to information from the public, the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office reported today.
Jake Lamar Wilson, 33, was taken into custody without incident by the Portland Police Bureau. He is due to be transported to Clatsop County to face arraignment on multiple charges later this week.

On Friday, June 20 the Sheriff’s Office issued a request for the public’s help in apprehending Wilson, who was allegedly involved in a violent incident involving a firearm June 8, 2008 at Youngs River Falls. Wilson was wanted on charges of attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnap, attempt to elude, felon in possession of a firearm, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.

A woman believed to have been an accomplice of Wilson’s in the incident, Joanne Rice, 19, of Astoria, was arrested by local police on June 13, but Wilson escaped capture at that time.

Clatsop County Sheriff Tom Bergin thanked the community for assisting in the capture of Wilson, noting that the information provided led to his arrest Saturday. “This demonstrates how important citizen involvement is to the law enforcement community,” he said.
