Liberty Theater Hosts Book it Repertory
Yesterday, April 23rd 2008, my two boys and I visited the Liberty Theater. Liberty Theater We have been to the theater a few times to see plays. This play, Fairly Stupid Tales, was a bit different the others we have watched were put on my local Children and the Missoula Children’s Theater, including The Little Mermaid and The Jungle Book. This time the play was put on by three twenty-something actors. Trent, Ryan and Samara are from Seattle Washington’s Book It Repertory. Book It Repertory Theater A production company that focuses on bringing books to life for children. They had to try out for these parts, and have performed this play about 60-70 times so far for other schools in the northwest, and plan to perform it a few more months estimating that they will perform it a total of about 150 times.
In attendance were all local schools from Naselle and Jewell to Seaside and Cannon Beach. Even Northcoast Christian School, Lewis and Clark and of course Astoria grade schools were represented. The children were mostly first graders, but homeschoolers were also allowed to attend. The cost was $2.50 per student and one adult per 5 children was free.
The play was actually a compilation of plays from the book, “ The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales“ by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. It is available for check out from the Astoria Public Library. Some of the short plays were Tortoise and the Hare, Goldilocks and the Three Elephants, Little Red Running Shorts, Sticky Cheese Man, and Jacks Bean Problem. The last one being The True Story of the Three Little Pigs as told by the wolf.
The actors were very animated and funny, and brought this hilarious book to life. Even adults couldn’t help joining in the peals of laughter. Thanks to the Liberty Theater for bringing us a great educational activity for our children to enjoy.
