Knappa High Carnival

Today, Saturday April 19th, from 1:00-4:00pm Knappa’s Hilda Lahti Gym hosted a carnival.

The carnival ran by the high-schoolers was to raise money for the senior class. There were a variety of carnival games, Face painting, Concessions, and the Knappa Coffee Kart. My two boys and I went to each game, one of their favorites was the milk bottle toss. Where there are three bottles stacked in a pyramid and you try to knock them down, for only one ticket. Games were very affordable at only 1 ticket per game, tickets were 4/ $1. Prizes ranged from stickers, to
small puzzle games. In the center of the gym instead of a cake walk there was a 2 liter pop walk, winner won a bottle of pop. Another fun game my boys liked was the age old fishing game, where you toss the line over the backdrop and someone attaches a prize. They are currently admiring their hoard. Face painting was 2 tickets and you could choose from a dozen different icons to be painted on your face, my kids chose a cat face, complete with whiskers, and my other boy wanted a basketball, though he kept calling it a baseball. We better work on that one.

After we played games for awhile we got some cotton candy, they were huge and people weren’t able to finish them, though affordable at only 4 tickets each we shared one. From 1-2:30 we saw over 50 people come and go, and when we left there were more people arriving. So hopefully this will be a positive fundraiser for the school. It was lots of fun for the community.

When we left the gym we went to visit the volunteer firefighters and see their fire truck parked outside. They were taught how to use the radio headsets, and laid on the horn. My kids love that stuff. The high-school boys were very nice to my kids and explained to my oldest why they needed “all those axes and stuff”.

When deciding to host a fundraiser for your school there are many fundraising ideas available to you for choosing. The most popular fundraising ideas range from chocolate, magazines and candles to candy and much more!

I think if we want to discuss that, maybe we should discuss how much the school actually gets from those expensive chocolates, and the magazines that cost more than the renewal fees.
With the Carnival it was obvious that the only real cost was the small prizes which were probably 100 units per $ or something, so their overhead was very small. All the workers were volunteers and mostly kids. So I think it was a great choice, as is their Plant Sale coming up.

Great article!  Just a few corrections however.  The event was a fund raiser for the Knappa Parents club.  The event was organized by a Knappa High School student as her Senior Project.

Thank you for supporting our kids!
