Astoria Police Investigate Assault

At 12:47 AM Astoria Police were notified of an assault that occurred in the 1600 block of Duane. The incident occurred about 45 minutes earlier. A 22-year-old Astoria woman reported she was walking home from a downtown bar when she was grabbed from behind, thrown to the ground and punched in the face. During the assault she reported that the assailant pulled up her sweatshirt but made no attempt to touch her. Her eye and lips were swollen.

The assailant was described as a Hispanic male of average height and build. He was dressed in a dark color zip-up sweatshirt with dark blue jeans. The victim indicates she struck the assailant several times. Astoria Police were unable to locate the suspect or any witnesses to the incident.

Astoria Police ask that anyone with information about this incident call Detective Brian Slotte at 503.338.6411 × 24.

Astoria Police also pass on the following safety tips.

1. Be observant of things around you. If someone is following you, go to the nearest place of refuge.

2. Walk near the curb and avoid passing close to shrubbery, dark doorways and other places of concealment.

3. Do not hitchhike.

4. Avoid short cuts through parking lots and alleys.

5. Walk with a friend if at all possible. Don’t walk alone.

6. Don’t jog in secluded areas.

7. Utilize your cell phone to call for help if you believe you are being followed.
