Young Artists Showcase: THE STARS OF TOMORROW!
Astoria Academy Apprentice Artists, selected from leading American schools of music, perform vocal and instrumental chamber music and exciting fully staged opera scenes. Their names will soon be in the lights, so see them now! Ruth Dobson, director – Dorothy Danner, stage director General admission $10; Students $5 available at the door – FREE to Festival Subscribers

Friday, June 27 – 6:30 Prelude – 7:30 Concert – Liberty Theater – 12th & Commercial
Jazz Night: NANCY KING Sings Bernstein’s Blues Come early for a Concert Prelude by String of Pearls, Astoria, then:
The Rainbow Room comes to Astoria! Called “the greatest jazz singer alive”, NANCY KING joins renowned bassist GLEN MOORE for a classy night of virtuosity. Festival clarinetist IGOR SHAKMAN plays Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue and Riffs, a jazzy showpiece for Woody Herman and Benny Goodman.

Saturday, June 28 – 10:00 a.m. – CCC Performing Arts Center – 16th & Franklin
CLASSICS FOR KIDS: A Special Family Concert Introduce your family to the joys of classical music at an informal one-hour concert featuring Festival Artists and Friends in opera scenes and excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s historic Young People’s Concerts. Free admission with a contribution of canned goods to the Clatsop Community Food Bank.

Saturday, June 28 – 6:30 Preview – 7:30 Concert – Liberty Theater – 12th & Commercial
American Classics: WEST SIDE STORY and APPALACHIAN SPRING Come early for a Concert Preview, then:
Just back from conducting the Russian premiere of West Side Story, Keith Clark leads favorite songs and dances from Bernstein’s masterpiece, plus Copland’s Appalachian Spring, played live to the classic film of Martha Graham’s original choreography.

“Give us your hands” and join your friends for this Shakespeare-inspired Midsummer Matinee. Former Oregon Symphony Concertmaster blazes through Vivaldi’s familiar musical year, and popular actor David Ogden Stiers brings down the curtain with the Bard’s poetic verses set to Mendelssohn’s youthful masterpiece.

FESTIVAL AWARDS DINNER honoring MICHAEL FOSTER
Honoring MICHAEL FOSTER, life-long Astorian, educator, music-lover and Patron of the Arts. Post-concert Gourmet Dinner, Special Entertainment and “Growing Up With Michael”… Reminiscences by his Friends. Wine tasting by Mike Wallis and The Cellar on 10th at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner by Astoria Celebrity Chefs at 6:45 p.m.

Upcoming July Events
JULY 3 North Coast Symphonic Band – Celebrate the Fourth of July Concert. 6:30 pm Preshow and 7 pm concert. Admission by donation. A Red, White and Blue 4th, Familiar and Patriotic Music. USCG Air Group Color Guard. Scott Taylor, conductor.

July 14 7 pm. Town Hall Meeting – Oregon Department of Veteran’s Services, Governor’s Task Force. Open to the public.

July 21-26 Summer Day Camp – Missoula Children’s Theater, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Open Community Auditions 10 am Monday July 21 parts being cast for children entering first through 12 grade. Rehearsals for major parts that day. Rehearsals and workshops to follow all week. Performances on Saturday, July 26 at 3 pm and 7 pm. All tickets $5. There will be a fee charged for workshop participation.

July 30 234th Army Band in concert 7 pm. No admission charge, tickets available at all daily Astorian Offices and the Liberty Theater Box Office.
