Astoria Schools Finish up the school year
Wrapping up with Outdoor School
As Lewis & Clark fifth graders approached the final days of the school year the attention spans of the students seemed to be getting a little bit shorter than usual. The fifth grade teachers and students were ready for a change.
For a couple of days, one sunny and one not so, the fifth graders invaded Camp Kiwanalong for lessons that centered on outdoor activities. The students had 45 minute mini-course choices in shorebirds, archery, canoeing, geocaching, animal tracks, campfire songs, campfire cooking, tree identification and pond life. Compared to usual classroom work, this was just what the kids needed to finish up a great year.

JJ Astor Second Grade Class “Field” Trip lifts off to the sky
There were plenty of questions to be answered from Mrs. Fisher’s second grade class when they paid a visit to the Coast Guard Air Station. Most of the class had never had the chance to see the helicopters up close or to hear how the Coast Guard saves lives every year.
The crewmen that doubled as guides did a great job of watering down their roles and simplifying their missions so the kids could have a clear picture of the Coast Guard. After the fun and exciting fieldtrip the kids now have a better understanding and appreciation for the men and women at the Air Station.

The Astoria Middle School Marching Band, The Vikings, Marched to First Place in the Long Beach, Wa, Loyalty Days Parade to end the school year on a high Note. Led by Band Director Scot Cuthbert the first place plaque will be displayed in the AMS upstairs main hall display case, along with pictures of the talented musicians who earned top honors.
After all the diplomas were handed out to the 150 graduates of the class of 2008, the HS gym was filled with applause, silly string, hugs and tears.
Tip of the Day
All the lessons of history in four sentences: Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad with power. The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly small. The bee fertilizes the flower it robs. When it is dark enough, you can see the stars. ~ Charles A. Beard
