Nominate Your Business Choice for a Cash Mob

Clatsop Community College’s Pi Phi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is organizing a “Cash Mob” that will take place on Saturday, November 17, 2012.

Clatsop Community College’s Pi Phi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is organizing a “Cash Mob” that will take place on Saturday, November 17, 2012. A Cash Mob is essentially a random act of kindness intended to help out a local small business by flooding it with customers on a given day. The idea is to take nominations then vote on the business to be mobbed.

On the morning that the event is scheduled to happen, the winning business will be announced via social media (in this case Facebook) and the whole community is encouraged to participate by buying something that day from the business. It doesn’t matter how much you spend, it just matters that you show up and buy anything to show your support for a local business owner and their employees. In the case that you can’t find anything that you want to buy, but you would still like to help, a donation jar will also be present.

Criteria for a potential business are:
· Must be a small business in Astoria
· Must have a variety of items with a wide range of prices (so you can spend a little or a lot)
· Must be open the day of the Cash Mob
· Can’t be a restaurant (we don’t want to bury a restaurant with customers they can’t handle)Since this is Pi Phi’s first time organizing a Cash Mob they say they may be lenient with these criteria, if it makes sense. The winning business will be randomly selected. If there is a good turnout plans are to organize additional Cash Mobs and perhaps expand to all of Clatsop County. Businesses can be nominated by going to their Facebook page, PTK Pi Phi Chapter – CCC (Official Site), post your nomination and a brief reason for why you are nominating them. Anyone can nominate (you don’t have to be a student at CCC). Nominations can also be dropped off at the PTK office in Columbia Hall or mailbox E-3 also in Columbia Hall.
