Police Looking For Owner of Car Found Parked on Megler Bridge

Police are looking for Traci Wirkkala, 41, Naselle, Washington. Wirkkala’s vehicle was found parked on Megler Bridge with emergency flashers on and her dog and purse inside.

On Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 3:24 AM, Astoria Police were dispatched to an abandoned vehicle on the Megler bridge. Police arrived and found a four door, silver, Nissan Altima with Washington license plates parked with its emergency flashers on. There was a dog in the vehicle as well as a purse containing ID belonging to Traci Wirkkala a 41 year old female from Naselle. Wirkkala is described as being 5’05” tall and weighing 155 lbs. She has Brown eyes and brown hair.
Astoria Police contacted a family member of Wirkkala and released the dog to them. Wirkkala has not been located. The USCG was contacted and provided a helicopter to search the area. Wirkkala has been entered in the National Crime Information Center system and a local attempt to locate was issued.

Astoria Police are looking for any witnesses that may have seen the vehicle or Wirkkala prior to the vehicle being abandoned on the bridge. Astoria Police will continue to investigate. The Astoria Police Department has responded to similar incidents in the past. They have included people who have walked away from their car without notifying anyone, a person who used the ploy to stage a disappearance, and suicides. As a result the department will continue to keep an open mind as to what this incident is.
