A 70-year old Vancouver, Washington man died Sunday morning when the motorcycle he was operating traveled off Highway 202 just east of the Highway 103 junction north of Jewell and collided with a power pole. The victim’s name will be released later tonight to allow family more time for next of kin notifications. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Astoria Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

According to OSP Sergeant Andrew Merila, on April 15, 2012 at approximately 11:27 a.m. a 2004 Honda motorcycle driven by the victim was westbound on Highway 202 near milepost 29. The operator was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a protective helmet.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, Elsie-Vinemaple Rural Fire Department, and ODOT. The highway was not closed during the scene investigation.
