The Muses Among Us: CCC Faculty Exhibition with Poet Kim Stafford

Exhibiting through the month of February will be The Muses Among Us: CCC Faculty Exhibition with Poet Kim Stafford at the CCC Art Center Gallery. This exhibition, a collaborative event with Oregon poet and essayist Kim Stafford, will include the work of Clatsop Community College faculty members as well as the written word of Kim Stafford.

The exhibition is held in conjunction with a three day traveling event, intended to honor and respect our region as well as its dwellers. Having Everything Right: A Project in Eloquent Listening is an event inspired by the writings of Kim Stafford and is sponsored by Clatsop Community College Arts and Letters.

Participants in this series of meetings will include Kim Stafford as the “Eloquent Listener” and “Dwellers”, invited community members who have established themselves and their spirit of dedication to our region. Conversations will take place in South Clatsop County and travel north for stops in Astoria before heading across the Columbia River for closing ceremonies in Pacific County.

The exhibition will include the work of Richard Rowland, Department Chairman and sculpture and ceramics instructor; Kristin Shauck who teaches painting, drawing and design will be exhibiting multi-media collage work; Sonja May, oil paintings; David Myers and Chuck Meyer, photography; Lucien Swerdloff who teaches graphic design; Bill Antilla, woodcarving; Royal Nebeker, paintings and prints.

The faculty will be presenting work that relates to Kim Stafford’s writings. Exhibited with the visual language of the artist will be the written word of the poet, all conveying the core theme of place, beauty, and honor. This event and exhibition will provide a time to reflect what in Stafford’s words is “Having Everything Right”, creating space and time to offer respect to the spirit of our place and its inhabitants.

There will be an opening reception for the artists and visiting Oregon poet and essayist Kim Stafford
