Drunken Photos

by Tryan Hartill

I’m not into writing much today after drinking a bit too much last night. But I did take a few minutes to go on a foot-looper in between beers and take some photos….

Nice pics TH, as usual. These are pretty good so have you noticed whether you are a better photographer loopy or sober?

Hey a pictures worth 1000 words. These tell me that it was a really nice day, the kind where a hard working young man can develop a powerful thirst, but the horsetails are moving in. Things could get a little hazy by morning.

Perhaps more, if one is using steganography.

Yeah the weather here has sure changed over the last 5 or so years. The last 6 days have felt just like late July Early August. With it starting out cloudy and foggy, then burning off about noon with the NW wind picking up and then gets cloudy and foggy again by 4 in the morning.

Sometimes being in a different state of mind isnt a bad thing when you are photographing :) Do you know any of the history behind those old pier pilings?

Yeah and I think most of it is being in the right place, at the right time and having your camera handy!

The pilings used to be canneries and other fishing related businesses. They line the whole riverfront of Astoria and also surround Warrenton and across the River in Washington.

Between 1880 and 1930, anywhere from 25 to 50 million pounds of salmon was harvested on the Columbia and now we are down to about 2 million, of which a very large % are hatchery fish.

But we have cheap power.
